When maternal instinct kicks in, claws collide
On an early morning drive, we spotted a leopard with two young cubs. The leopard was outside its den when a lioness, lurking nearby, suddenly attacked. After a fierce fight, the leopard escaped up a tree, with the lioness in pursuit. A large male lion joined, but he fell from the tree while trying to climb. The cubs were safe, the leopard mother was sore but okay, and the lioness was badly injured. The big male lost points with us. We wrapped up with a bush breakfast and two hours of thrilling wildlife viewing.
